CHALLENGE

Combine engineering with elegance

When tasked with creating the first video doorbell in the Control4 smart home portfolio, we knew we needed to elevate everything. The end user for this product is looking for a premium experience. At the same time, a doorbell is a durable good and the physical design needed to be modern, yet timeless—all while withstanding the effects of an outdoor environment.

Being a new entrant in a crowded category, we took the time to conduct thorough market research. Knowing what we wanted Chime to be and what we wanted to stay away from, the Enlisted ID team started ideating and sketching. We drew inspiration from the monolithic shapes and straight lines of modern architecture that made important design details small but meaningful.

The form factor needed to convey quality and prestige while delivering high-quality video output and doorbell functionality. Working around the inner mechanics, we designed an outer case with high-end metals and a two-tone design that emphasizes the button through material and contouring, and treats the camera as a leading technology with a quiet presence.

RESULTS 

Premium functionality

Launched in November 2020 with black and nickel color schemes, and a brass option on the horizon, the Chime is a beautiful product that is the first of many we’re designing for Control4’s new portfolio. Its sleek and elegant design upholds the premium solution consumers are looking for—without compromise.
